Milton Rawle is accused of embezzling nearly $300,000

JACKSON, Miss. – Today State Auditor Shad White announced Special Agents from his office have arrested former City of Columbus Chief Financial Officer Milton Rawle, Jr. after he was indicted for embezzlement by a grand jury in the district of District Attorney Scott Colom. Upon his arrest, Rawle was issued a demand showing he owes $354,896.27 to taxpayers in Columbus. This amount includes interest and investigative expenses.

State Auditor Releases Annual Exceptions Report

Money returned to taxpayers increased by over 350%

JACKSON, Miss. – State Auditor Shad White’s office returned over $5.6 million to taxpayers last fiscal year. According to the Audit Exceptions Report for Fiscal Year 2020, released today, the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor more than tripled the amount of money it returned to taxpayers compared to last year.

Auditor’s Office Arrests Three in Jones County

JACKSON, Miss. – Today Auditor Shad White announced Special Agents from his office arrested Jones County District 5 Road Foreman Roland Graham and Larry Barnes. Graham was indicted for fraud or embezzlement and conspiracy to defraud the state, and Barnes was indicted for conspiracy to defraud the state, by a grand jury assembled by District Attorney Anthony Buckley. Demand letters worth a total of $14,442.18 were delivered at the time of the arrest. The total demand amount includes interest and the cost of the investigation.

Audit Shows Office of Dropout Prevention was Defunct, Changed How Graduation Rate Was Calculated to Improve Stats

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) failed to maintain an Office of Dropout Prevention (ODP) for the last 10 years as required by state law. Additionally, lawmakers told MDE to increase the graduation rate from 61% in 2006 to 85% by 2019, and MDE met this goal in part by changing how it calculates the graduation rate.
