Auditor’s Office Given High Marks in Peer Review

JACKSON, Miss. – State Auditor Shad White announced today his office has obtained the highest possible rating after being reviewed by the National State Auditors Association (NSAA). This “peer review” was conducted in late August by independent auditors from across the country. All audit reports issued by the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor from August 2020 to July 2021 were included in the review.

Auditor Releases Annual Exceptions Report

JACKSON, Miss. – State Auditor Shad White announced in today’s Audit Exceptions Report for Fiscal Year 2021 that his office identified nearly 400% more stolen and misspent taxpayer money last year than it did the year before. This comes in addition to the $55.5 million a pharmacy benefit management company has agreed to pay the state after being investigated by the Auditor’s office. The State Auditor’s office also returned nearly $900,000 to taxpayers during the last fiscal year.

Brittany Ransom is Guilty of Fraud

JACKSON, Miss. –Today State Auditor Shad White announced Brittany Ransom has been convicted of fraud in Covington County Circuit Court. The case was prosecuted by District Attorney Chris Hennis’s office in Judge Stanley Sorey’s court chambers. The guilty plea and sentencing were recorded last week.

JACKSON, Miss. – Over $117 million in improper unemployment payments were made by Mississippi’s Department of Employment Security (MDES) last year and during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic.
