February 14, 2012

JACKSON- Latricia Cornelson was arrested today in Greene County and served by the State Auditor’s Office with her indictment, which charges her with seven counts of Embezzlement.

Each embezzlement count is alleged to have occurred during her time as Greene County Chancery Clerk.

Tony Lawrence stated, “The indictment is an allegation of criminal wrongdoing, but under our law, the Defendant is innocent until proven guilty at a trial of this cause.  My office will continue to work with the State Auditor’s office to prevent, investigate, and prosecute allegations involving a violation of the public trust.”

State Auditor Stacey Pickering said, “Latricia Cornelson has been employed by Greene County since 1994. The investigation determined the alleged embezzlement took place from January 2005 – November 2007 by Cornelson submitting fraudulent statements and making false representations to Greene County. Special agents with the State Auditor’s Office have been diligent in investigating and bringing this case to District Attorney Tony Lawrence. I appreciate his efforts in taking this case to the Grand Jury. Since I took office in 2008, the State Auditor’s Office has recovered over $4.9 million. Anyone who steals from the taxpayers will be held accountable for their actions.”
