This repayment follows an investigation into misuse of public funds by town clerk Manika Kelly.  From October 2006 to November 2011, Kelly embezzled funds from the Town’s water and sewer accounts.

“Our investigative team did an outstanding job with this case in holding Manika Kelly responsible for her actions,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering.  “I appreciate the efforts and the efficiency of our special agents and am pleased that we can return this money to the taxpayers of Anguilla.”

Kelly was placed on administrative leave December 6, 2011, and was terminated on February 7, 2012.  She was indicted on August 20, 2012, and this matter is set for trial in May of 2013.
