June 9, 2009

JACKSON- Chris Lott, a special agent in the State Auditor’s Office, was a recipient of the “Top Cop” award on Thursday, May 12, at the Mississippi Trade Mart.

Lott is a resident of Poplarville, Mississippi.  He was hired in September of 2007 by the Office of State Auditor as a member of the Katrina Fraud Prevention and Detection Unit.

“Chris has a strong background in law enforcement and investigation,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering.  “We are fortunate to have his knowledge and experience in the State Auditor’s Office as we work to protect those individuals still recovering from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina across South Mississippi.”

The Top Cop program is in its fourth year of recognizing top law enforcement agents in Mississippi.  The annual awards program is sponsored by the Mississippi Center for Police and Sheriffs.  Awards are given to agents representing state agencies and metro area law enforcement agencies. Lott was recognized for his responsibility on Peace Officers’ Memorial Day and during Police Week, a time when the country honors brave public servants who fight crime, violence and terrorism.

Lott attended Pearl River Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park Law Enforcement Training Academy.  Lott joined the United States Navy in 1991 where he served for a period of four years.  He also served as a Criminal Investigator, Narcotics Unit Commander, and Chief of Investigations for the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department.  He is married to Leigh Anna Lott and is the son of Mary Lou Lott and the late Mark Lott of Poplarville.
