March 12, 2010

JACKSON- Francine Green, former clerk in the Department of Libraries at the University of Mississippi has been indicted for embezzling $15,937.87 following an investigation by the State Auditor’s Office.

The State Auditor’s Office issued a demand to Green on March 7, 2007 for $30,931.30 which included $7,490.80 in interest and $7,502.63 in investigative costs.

“The embezzlement took place from May 1999 to March 2002 during Green’s employment with the University of Mississippi,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering. “Our investigation determined that Green used the public funds to pay personal bills. I am pleased to report this recent indictment and may it serve as a reminder to those that betray the public trust: there is no statute of limitations on embezzlement of public funds. I commend the District Attorney for pursuing this case.”
