February 16, 2010

JACKSON- Special agents in the State Auditor’s Office arrested Elesha Dailey today following an indictment by the Tishomingo Grand Jury on seven counts of embezzlement.

Dailey was the town clerk of Burnsville from 2004 – 2007 and served as deputy town clerk from 2002-2004.

The investigation conducted by the State Auditor’s Office alleges Dailey embezzled over $62,000. She has already repaid $12,804.73. The alleged embezzlement took place from January 2004 – January 2007 and was initially discovered and reported to the State Auditor’s Office by a CPA firm conducting the city’s routine audit and Burnsville officials.

“The funds in this investigation were taken by Elesha Dailey through water payments while she was working as a clerk for the Town of Burnsville,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering. “This embezzlement represents a substantial sum of money to the City of Burnsville. Our special agents have prepared an excellent case, and I am confident that we will be successful in this case on behalf of the taxpayers of Burnsville.”
