Former Teacher/ Science Club Sponsor Pleads Guilty to Grand Larceny

JACKSON- State Auditor Stacey Pickering announced today that Tiffany Jones,  a former Science Teacher and Science Club Sponsor for the Quitman School District in Clarke County, has recently pled guilty to the felony crime of grand larceny.

An investigation by the State Auditor’s Office discovered that Jones embezzled nearly $4,000.00 from the parents and students of Quitman Junior High School.  Ms. Jones collected money for a school trip scheduled for the Spring of 2009, and converted those funds to her personal use.

“The embezzlement took place from October 2008 to February 2009,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering.  “Ms. Jones betrayed the public trust, and the State Auditor’s Office will recover these funds as quickly as possible on behalf of the students and the school district.”

Jones was sentenced to three years of supervised probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections and was ordered to pay full restitution of $5,642.38, which includes interest and investigative costs.
