JACKSON- Emily Holder, former city clerk for the town of New Augusta, pled guilty to embezzlement and two counts of forgery.

Holder embezzled over $53,137 from the City by writing checks to herself and forging the Mayor’s signature. According to the State Auditor’s Office, the embezzlement began in 2006.

“Investigators at the State Auditor’s Office have worked diligently on this case beginning in June 2009 when the auditor of the City of New Augusta discovered evidence of embezzlement,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering. “Ms. Holder will serve one year of house arrest in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections and must pay restitution to the Town of New Augusta in the amount of $65,579.98, which includes interest and investigative costs.”

In addition to her sentencing, Holder must participate in the Forrest-Perry County Community Service Program and perform 500 hours of community service.

Holder, a resident of Petal, was employed with the City of New Augusta beginning in January 2001 and resigned June 18, 2009.
