Former Leake County Chamber Director Sentenced To Serve 5 Years for Embezzlement

April 24, 2012

JACKSON- State Auditor Stacey Pickering announced today Renodda Dorman, former Leake County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, was sentenced to 10 years, 5 years to serve and 5 years of probation after pleading guilty to embezzlement. Dorman was also ordered to make $60,916.11 in restitution back to Leake County.

The joint investigation by District Attorney Mark Duncan, Leake County Sheriff’s Office, Carthage Police Department and the State Auditor’s Office determined the embezzlement took place between 2008 and 2010. Dorman was arrested in July 2011 after a 7 month investigation. She had been employed as the Executive Director of the Chamber since 2001.

“Renodda Dorman pled guilty to embezzlement following an investigation that showed she wrote unauthorized checks to herself for additional salary she was not authorized to receive. In addition to checks written to herself, Dorman also wrote checks to cover personal bills such as cable television and cell phone payments,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering. “This case originated with the Leake County Sheriff’s office and my office received a request from District Attorney Mark Duncan and Sheriff Greg Waggoner to assist with the case. I appreciate all of the agencies involved in bringing this case to a close and protecting the taxpayers of Mississippi.”
