Clinton Tapper Sentenced Following Guilty Plea in Katrina Fraud Case

July 16, 2009

JACKSON- Clinton Tapper was sentenced in federal court in Gulfport following a guilty plea to three counts of fraud relating to a Hurricane Katrina grant.

Tapper was indicted in October for charges of fraud and entered a guilty plea before Federal Judge Walter Gex on April 6, 2009. On July 8, Tapper was sentenced to three years of probation and was required to immediately make restitution of the $193,000 he received in the form of a Katrina grant.

“The State Auditor’s Office continues to investigate cases of Katrina fraud across South Mississippi and currently has over 300 active cases,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering. “Our office has been very successful in identifying fraud cases and we continue to work with federal and state courts to bring these cases to a conclusion.”
