JACKSON- State Auditor Stacey Pickering has issued a demand to former Tippah County Chancery Clerk Daniel T. Shackelford in the amount of $190,600.72 for funds embezzled from court designated funds collected in the Chancery Clerk’s Office and fee cap violations from January 2000 – August 2007.

The amount embezzled totaled $362,190.25 but $268,583.98 has already been repaid. The amount also represents $56,894 in interest and $40,000 in investigative costs incurred by the State Auditor’s Office.

“This investigation took a significant amount of time, but I commend our investigators for the thorough work and for making this case a priority,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering. “I remain committed to protecting the assets and integrity of the taxpayers of Mississippi.”

Shackelford has 30 days to pay the demanded money to the State Auditor’s Office. The case has been forwarded to the District Attorney for his review.
