Warren County Circuit Clerk Indicted for Embezzlement

August 7, 2013

JACKSON- State Auditor Stacey Pickering announced today that Warren County Circuit Clerk Shelly Palmertree has been indicted on two felony counts of embezzlement by a Warren County Grand Jury.

Palmertree surrendered to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and Auditor’s Office Special Agents this morning where she was arrested and booked. Palmertree posted a $5,000.00 bond and was released.

On March 5th, the Auditor’s Office served a civil demand to Palmertree in the amount of $661,751.75. The amount of $402,033.00 was attributed to Palmertree exceeding the fee cap, and $163,700.00 was attributed to her making payments to relatives within the first degree of kinship.

“I appreciate the diligence of the Warren County Board of Supervisors and the Board Attorney in working closely with my office to ensure the taxpayers of Warren County are protected,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering.

Prosecution of this case is being handled by the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
