JACKSON- Today, State Auditor Stacey Pickering announced the release of the Fiscal Year 2013 Audit Exceptions Report.

This report is a legally mandated account of all misappropriated or misspent public funds and the actions taken by the State Auditor’s Office for recovery and return of those funds to the appropriate entities for FY 2013.

An audit “exception” indicates that a violation of the law or an accounting error resulted in public funds being misappropriated or spent incorrectly. The term also refers to money that must be repaid.

“It is the responsibility of the State Auditor’s Office to provide accountability and true transparency for the taxpayers of Mississippi,” said Auditor Stacey Pickering.  “This report is evidence of the hard work being done in the State Auditor’s Office and shows our dedication to protecting tax dollars in Mississippi.”

Since taking office January 10, 2008, State Auditor Stacey Pickering has recovered over $19,661,787.13 million in misappropriated and embezzled funds.
