Office of State Auditor Arrests and Issues Demand Against Former Bookkeeper of South Pontotoc School

JACKSON, Miss. – On Thursday, May 18, 2017, Special Agents from the Office of the State Auditor (OSA) arrested Former Bookkeeper for South Pontotoc School Dianne Barefield on the charge of embezzlement. OSA then issued a demand of $62,646.29 to Barefield, which covered the loss, interest, and the cost of recovery.

OSA’s Investigative Division received a complaint alleging that money was missing from the club and activity accounts at South Pontotoc School. Following an OSA Investigation, evidence was presented to a Pontotoc County Grand Jury who returned an indictment resulting in her arrest. She is scheduled to appear in Pontotoc county Circuit Court on May 30, 2017.
Barefield was employed by South Pontotoc School from 1999 to May 28, 2014.
