Mississippi Office of State Auditor Issues Demand Against Former Hancock County Justice Court Employee

July 31, 2017

JACKSON, Miss. – On Friday, July 28, 2017, Special Agents from the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor (OSA) arrested former Hancock County Justice Court Employee, Dana Sue Beaman, on the charges of embezzlement and making false entries in public records. The OSA also issued a demand of $197,408.94, which accounts for the embezzled amount, interest, and recovery costs.

This case was referred to the OSA Investigative Division from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office after Beaman confessed to embezzling $4,000 from the Justice Court. Upon further investigation, the total amount of embezzled money was assessed to be $110,827.50.

“Our Investigative Division did an excellent job looking further than the initial confession,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering. “She admitted to embezzling $4,000, but our team found the number to be much larger than we originally expected.”

Beaman was employed by the Hancock County Justice Court from January 2008 until June 2011. The date of her appearance in the Court House of Hancock County is currently pending.
