Arrest Made in Harrison County Katrina Fraud Case

April 8, 2008

JACKSON- State Auditor Stacey Pickering announced the arrest of Sean Knight, age 34, of D’Iberville.

Knight’s arrest stems from an investigation conducted by the State Auditor’s Katrina Fraud Prevention and Detection Unit and the Attorney General’s office after alleged home repair fraud. A complaint was filed in January 2008 by a D’Iberville resident claiming a contract had been made with Knight to build a new home where Knight was paid $63,000 and the work was not finished. The resident claims the checks were cashed but the work was not completed.

Investigators with the State Auditor’s Office were assisted by the Attorney General’s Office in this investigation.

“New cases continue to be reported and investigated following the devastation along the Gulf Coast and south Mississippi caused by Hurricane Katrina,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering. “The investigators with the Katrina Fraud Prevention and Detection Unit worked very diligently to bring this arrest. I appreciate the assistance in this case by the Attorney General’s Office and local officials.”

Knight was booked into the Harrison County Jail on April 7, and bond was set at $50,000.
