Default May a newly-elected mayor or board of aldermen vote to raise their salaries?

Q May a newly-elected mayor and board of aldermen operating under a Code Charter form of government vote to raise their salaries upon taking office?

A Yes. They must act in good faith and the increased salaries must be reasonable in relation to the municipalityís resources and the duties of the officers. (Attorney Generalís Opinion to Webster dated July 3, 2009)
