Q May a county juvenile detention facility provide copies of records including names, other identifying information, as well as healthcare information concerning juveniles in custody to the Mississippi Juvenile Facility Monitoring Unit via mail, e-mail, or fax?

A Yes, Section 43-21-323 provides that the monitoring unit is responsible for investigating, evaluating, and securing the rights of children held in juvenile detention facilities. The same section also provides the monitor may review court documents any other confidential records necessary to fulfill these duties.
