Q May the sheriff eliminate face-to-face visitation in the jail in favor of video visitation that charges inmates and/or visitors $0.50 per minute for the service?

A The Mississippi Code does not address privileges such as phone, mail, visitation, law library or recreation activities for county prisoners. As such, the sheriff may place reasonable restrictions with regard to all visitors. The reasonableness of restrictions, including an associated fee, is a matter subject to judicial review.
