Q Does either the chancery court or chancery clerk have an obligation to report to any entity the fact that an individual has been committed for mental evaluation under the commitment laws of the State of Mississippi?

A The state commitment statutes do not contain any requirement for the chancery clerk or court to report commitments for mental evaluations to any entity. Note that SB 2647, which was signed by the Governor on March 20, 2013 (after this Opinion was issued), does create some reporting requirements pursuant to new Section 9-1-49, effective July 1, 2013.
