Q Who is responsible for maintaining order in the (Justice Court) courtroom?

A The sheriff’s duty is to provide courtroom security, while the bailiff’s duty is to assist the court relating to courtroom procedures including the seating of witnesses and activities of jurors. Both should assist the court in maintaining order and decorum in the courtroom and should obey lawful orders of the judge. The court may provide written and/or oral directions for the maintenance of order and decorum in the courtroom and what is expected of those involved in the operation of the court. It is recommended that problems arising from maintaining order and decorum should be addressed by the court with the pertinent courtroom officers, sheriffs and bailiffs.
