June 6, 2013

JACKSON- Special Agents with the State Auditor’s Office are investigating the actions of Union County Coroner, Mark Golding.

The State Auditor’s Office is investigating Mark Golding for issuing false claims and invoices to Union County that he investigated deaths within the County and received payment for those claims. Investigators found that Golding submitted false invoices to the Union County Board.

Golding resigned today, June 6, as County Coroner for Union County.

Yesterday, June 5, Special Agents seized a $5,000.00 check from the Union County Chancery Clerk’s Office as proof of Golding’s embezzlement.

“This is a great example of our auditors uncovering fraud, waste, and abuse during the standard audit process,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering. “We will continue to hold elected officials accountable in order to protect the taxpayers of Mississippi.”
