State Auditor Tops $1 Million In Recovered Taxpayer Funds

April 9, 2008

JACKSON- After returning $300,000 to the taxpayers in Jefferson County, State Auditor’s Office has recovered a total of $1,207,221.89 to taxpayers across Mississippi.

This effort by the Office of the State Auditor is part of an ongoing pursuit in returning taxpayer’s money which has been embezzled, misspent or misappropriated by public officials and government employees.

“This effort has been ongoing since July 2007. I am proud of the success of our office and staff and applaud the work done in conjunction with other agencies. Most of our elected officials and government employees in Mississippi are honest, hard working public servants, but there are some that violate that law and the people’s trust. We will continue to prosecute anyone who illegally uses the taxpayer’s money,” said Stacey Pickering, State Auditor.
