Due to the recent debate and House passage of HB 957 (Mississippi Uniform Per Student Funding Formula Act of 2018), I thought it would be prudent to share the historical research and information compiled by my office about the many changes to the MAEP. Included here is a list of current MAEP state code sections that have been amended, added, or changed; a copy of the School District Rating and Accountability System changes over time; and an overview flow chart of the actual MAEP formula.

State Auditor Stacey Pickering Reports Fraud, Waste, and Abuse at Mississippi Auctioneer Commission and Board of Cosmetology

JACKSON, Miss. – On Tuesday, January 16, 2018, State Auditor Stacey Pickering released two compliance audit reports detailing fraud, waste, and abuse at the Mississippi Auctioneer Commission and Mississippi State Board of Cosmetology. The scope of the audits included Fiscal Years 2015-2017 for the Mississippi Auctioneer Commission and Fiscal Year 2016 for the Mississippi State Board of Cosmetology. Auditor’s Office Arrests Former Biloxi School District Resource Officer

JACKSON, Miss. – On Tuesday, November 14, 2017, special agents from the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor (OSA) arrested former Biloxi School District Police Chief, Paul Gordon Cannette of Ocean Springs, after he was indicted on one count of embezzlement by a Harrison County grand jury. Cannette was issued a demand of $244,819.78 from OSA, which includes the amount embezzled, interest, and recovery costs.

State Auditor Issues over $250,000 in Demands and Makes Arrests

JACKSON, Miss. – Agents from the Office of the State Auditor (OSA) recently arrested Sherry Brewer, former Bookkeeper for Harrison Central High School. She was issued a demand of $14,698.36, which includes interest and investigative costs. A Harrison County Grand Jury indicted Brewer for embezzlement and alteration of records after evidence showed Brewer was pocketing money from students and teachers and altering the receipts.

Pontotoc City Park and Recreation Special Events Coordinator Arrested and Issued Demand

JACKSON, Miss. – On Tuesday, September 12, 2017, Special Agents from the Office of the State Auditor (OSA) arrested Pontotoc City Park and Recreation Special Events Coordinator Michelle Boone on the charge of embezzlement. OSA then issued a demand of $15,153.21 to Boone, which covered the loss, interest, and the cost of recovery.
