Former Southwest Covington County Volunteer Fire Department Chief Sentenced

February 4, 2015

JACKSON-State Auditor Stacey Pickering announced today that Jerry Warren, the former Fire Chief of the Southwest Covington County Volunteer Fire Department (SCCVFD), pled guilty to one count of grand larceny and has been sentenced to five years non-adjudicated probation.

Warren has also been ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $9,807.35.

Warren embezzled the money from SCCVFD dating back to 2009 by making cash withdrawals totaling $9,450.38 from two separate bank accounts, while also making unauthorized personal purchases totaling $356.97.

“Volunteer Fire Departments provide an invaluable service to many Mississippians, so it is particularly disheartening to see a former fire chief embezzling from his own fire department,” Pickering said. “I am glad that this money will be returned to the Southwest Covington County Volunteer Fire Department.”
