Carroll County Supervisor Indicted For Embezzlement

JACKSON- State Auditor Stacey Pickering announced today that Lloyd “Honey” Ashmore, Carroll County District 2 Supervisor, was indicted on two counts of embezzlement, first count in the amount of $3,196.59 and count two in the amount of $1,982.66.

The State Auditor’s Office received a complaint on April 23, 2007 that Ashmore, 65, built a bridge on his personal property.

“This supervisor and all elected officials must be held to the highest of standards. Taxpayers trust elected officials to use money wisely and to refrain from any misuse of funds,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering. The investigator in the State Auditor’s Office did a great job collecting evidence in this case, and I appreciate the efforts of the Attorney General’s Office in the joint investigation and the prosecution of Ashmore.”

The indictment was served and processed by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday, May 20, 2008. Ashmore was booked into the Carroll/Montgomery Detention Center in Vaiden and was released on his own recognizance pending a court date.
